VILUPPO
The task was to restore an old chare frame made by Calligaris.
My main idea was to make a chair which gives the soft feeling to its user.
My main idea was to make a chair which gives the soft feeling to its user.
I wanted to go as simple as I can with the use of materials. I experimented with different fabrics, threads, but my final chose was sponge.
I realized that the sponge itself never going to be strong enough to hold someone, so I put metal crossing rods on the sitting plane. These rods are sloping from the first legs to the rear legs. This solution solved the problem which was given by the first legs height; they are 5 cm higher than the rear ones. I twisted the sponges around them in different variations.
I removed the original paint from the frame and put a transparent lacquer on it, because I wanted to show the original material both of the frame and the sponge.
I got the final shapes of the sponges by experimenting with different kinds of weaving around the crossing rods. The best one was where two sponges twistes around each other, because it was the simplest most comfortable and good looking option. I really liked that it gives a wave shapes from the sideview.
